Since the pre-season testing sessions in Bahrain, McLaren has introduced a sophisticated sensor dedicated to tireS temperature monitoring. This element is integrated directly into the horizontal fin (dive plane) on the front wing endplate.
This solution was adopted also by Mercedes for the season opener in Australia, albeit with a specific technical distinction. On the W17, the sensor is flush-mounted into the lower portion of the dive plane; the latter showcases a novel profile, featuring an upward twist to optimize airflow management.
