At Silverstone among the F1 historic cars there was the Lotus 88, one of the most controversial and revolutionary car of the 80s. The idea of the twin-chassis concept was very clever but found opposition with the tech rules. Article 1.4 forbids to have movable aerodynamic parts. In fact Lotus 88 had 2 chassis: one traditional responsable for the mechanical forces exerted on the car and a second one taking care of the aerodynamic forces. Chapman tried several attempts to race the ’88. But, with staunch opposition at every turn, he was eventually forced to abandon the design and run a conventional one instead, Lotus 91.
